A state-of-the-art hybrid smart classroom was launched at Northern University within the framework of the Erasmus+ eCAMPUS project.
On November 21, at 11:00 AM, Northern University held the official opening ceremony of the Hybrid Smart Classroom created within the Erasmus+ project “Promoting Socially Distanced and Inclusive on Campus Education in Armenian Higher Education Institutions (eCAMPUS)”.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by the Rector of Northern University, Dr. Mher Makichyan, along with the Head and Coordinator of the eCAMPUS project, Prof. Dr. Armen Budaghyan.Within the project, the establishment of eight similar smart classrooms is planned at three partner universities, YSU, ASPU, and ASUE.
The initiative aims to enhance the quality of higher education through technological and innovative solutions by creating a modern digital and hybrid learning environment in line with contemporary European standards.
The main technical features of the smart classrooms include:
A 98-inch interactive LCD with a built-in computer serving as a central platform for presentations, interactive teaching, and learning activities.
Two 4K PTZ cameras with zoom lenses and an automatic voice-tracking system, ensuring high-quality video and audio recording and facilitating the engagement of remote learners.
A multifunctional media station, HD recorder, and broadcasting device for efficient and integrated management of various media formats.
A digital photo and video camera with a professional lens and tripod for project-based tasks, presentations, and other initiatives requiring high-quality visual documentation.
During the opening ceremony, project beneficiaries were introduced to the advantages and educational applications of the hybrid smart classroom.
By implementing smart classrooms, the project aims not only to improve the quality of education but also to promote collaboration between students and lecturers, encourage innovative teaching approaches, and support participatory learning formats. Advanced technological solutions allow for the creation of a more flexible, inclusive, and student-centered environment, where instructors can adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and provide an educational experience aligned with modern requirements.
The eCAMPUS project is currently in progress. At this stage, the Digital Competence Framework for Armenian Universities has already been developed, based on a study of best practices from European partner institutions and with input from their experts. The Framework reflects modern pedagogical approaches and current trends in digital education in Europe and worldwide. The Armenian version of the Framework will be available soon.
To sum up, the establishment of the hybrid smart classroom at Northern University marks an essential step toward shaping a modern, technologically equipped, and student-centered educational environment. It enables the combination of on-site and remote learning, ensures high-quality communication, supports innovative teaching methods, and makes the educational process more flexible, accessible, and aligned with the development trends of European higher education.
